One of my guilty pleasures is fantasizing about a Huckabee/Palin '12 ticket. Political suicide? Perhaps. Out-of-touch with where Republican politics is
headed? Almost certainly! But a part of me can't let the "compassionate conservativism" dream die, and this--slightly guilt-ridden--part of
myself is the very same that finds the idea of a Chuck Norris book on politics
just a little bit titilating. Does it contain serious insights into politics? Probably not; the dust jacket paints liberals as monolithic, government-loving
secularists, which is undoubtedly an oversimplification. Will I read it anyway? I might not be able to help myself.
Norris promises to address not only political problems but the nation's "obesity epidemic," which apparently "kills more people than terrorists." Well, it might not be that big of an issue if Paul Campos' The Obesity Myth is correct: according to Campos, if we went by strict BMI (Body-Mass Index) standards, "Brad Pitt is overweight and George Clooney is obese." Apparenly he employs a great deal of other data to argue that weight isn't quite the health issue it's been made out to be.
